A national calligraphy festival was opened with due ceremony at the Pyongyang International House of Culture on Wednesday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung (Day of the Sun).
Seen at the festival venue is the Korean painting "Meeting young wit" portraying tender-hearted President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il seeing calligraphy skill of a schoolgirl.
Exhibited there are at least 300 calligraphy pieces, written with diverse strokes, dealing with aphorisms of the peerlessly great persons and excellent compositions and verses created by experts and amateurs during their creative activities and labor life.
Attending the opening ceremony were officials concerned, calligraphers and amateurs, youth and students and working people in Pyongyang.
Minister of Culture Pak Chun Nam made an opening address.
